We can help.
We post bail for people who cannot afford to buy their pretrial freedom.

All should be FREE!
We believe that no one is free until we are all free. The Berkshire Bail Freedom Fund is a grassroots, community-based, collective effort and it will require all of us to succeed.
We invite you to donate whatever you are able to. It is time to take care of each other. With your support, the BBFF is ready to do our part.

“THERE CAN BE NO EQUAL JUSTICE WHERE THE KIND OF TRIAL A MAN GETS DEPENDS ON THE AMOUNT OF MONEY HE HAS.”
-U.S. SUPREME COURT JUSTICE HUGO BLACK, 1964

WHY NOW?
→ District attorneys are elected officials
While our current DA no longer requests cash bail in most cases, we recognize that this policy can change under a different district attorney.
→ Judges can – and continue to – impose bail…
…upon people who cannot afford to pay it, which results in pretrial detention based purely on a defendant’s economic status.
→ Disporportant impact
A recent Harvard study shows that Massachusetts courts continue to disproportionately prosecute people of color and low-income people.

Addressing an uncertain future.
Across the nation, we are seeing legislative attacks upon people of color, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and the right to protest. We must prepare ourselves. Establishing a bail fund now will enable our community to help those still being held on cash bail today, and position us to address an uncertain future.
CONTRIBUTE
Join Us: All donations will go directly to bail costs and related support for incarcerated community members. Once a case is resolved, the money returns to the fund and will be used for other cases.

Freedom for all

The ability to pay shouldn’t impact freedom
